Digital Dental X-Ray
EastOver Vet has digital dental x-ray technology. This diagnostic tool is used by our veterinarians to obtain detailed images of the teeth and surrounding structures in dogs and cats.
What is Digital Dental X-ray?
- Digital Imaging Technology: Digital dental x-rays use electronic sensors to capture images, which then convert x-ray beams into digital data. The image is then displayed on a computer screen.
- Detailed Dental Images: The digital x-ray provides high-resolution images of your pet’s teeth, roots, jawbone, and surrounding tissues. This also gives us the ability to view oral structures that are not visible during a regular dental examination.
- Quick and Efficient: The digital process allows for immediate viewing and evaluation of the images, enabling veterinarians to diagnose and plan treatments more quickly than with traditional x-rays.
Why Does EastOver Utilize Digital Dental X-ray During Dental Exams?
Digital dental x-rays help us in the early detection of various dental problems such as tooth decay, periodontal disease, tooth fractures, and other abnormalities. Early detection is crucial for effective treatment and prevention of further complications.
They allow for a thorough examination of your pet’s oral health, which is essential for comprehensive dental care. We can identify issues that might not be visible during a routine visual oral examination.
High-quality images enable us to plan precise and effective treatments, whether it’s a simple dental cleaning, extraction, or more complex dental surgery.
Digital x-rays are faster than traditional film x-rays, which can reduce the amount of time your pet needs to be under anesthesia, thereby minimizing risks associated with anesthesia.
Digital x-rays provide a good history for monitoring the progress of dental treatments and the healing process, allowing for better follow-up care.
We are able to show pet parents clear images of their pet’s dental issues to help in educating them about their pet’s dental disease and the need for recommended treatments.
Digital dental x-rays are minimally invasive, causing little to no discomfort to the animal, making the diagnostic process smoother and less stressful.
General Anesthesia and the Comprehensive Oral Exam with Dental X-rays:
When we perform a comprehensive oral exam with dental x-rays on your pet, we require your pet to be under general anesthesia. Here are the reasons why anesthesia is necessary:
For high-quality dental x-rays, your pet needs to remain completely still. Even slight movements can result in blurry images, making accurate diagnosis difficult. Anesthesia ensures the pet stays still during the procedure.
Proper positioning is crucial to obtain clear and diagnostic images. Anesthesia allows our team to position your pet’s head and mouth appropriately without causing stress or discomfort to your pet.
Dental x-ray procedures can be stressful and uncomfortable for pets, especially if they have underlying dental issues. Anesthesia minimizes stress and ensures the pet is comfortable throughout the procedure.
Anesthesia helps prevent any sudden movements that could potentially harm the pet or the veterinary staff. It also ensures that the x-ray equipment is used safely and effectively.
Digital dental x-rays are part of a comprehensive dental examination and cleaning. Anesthesia allows us to perform a thorough oral examination, cleaning, and any necessary dental work, all in one session.
While general anesthesia carries some risks, it is generally considered safe, especially with the modern anesthetic protocols and monitoring equipment we use at EastOver Vet. We conduct pre-anesthetic evaluations, including bloodwork, to ensure your pet is healthy enough for anesthesia and take all necessary precautions to minimize risks.
